Catching the breath facing COVID-19

A Lyon consortium is working on the validation of a new method to detect COVID-19 through the characterization of molecules present in exhaled air. As simple and fast as a breathalyzer, this methodology is based on the incredible performance of a new generation of instruments. Beyond this pandemic, a new field for the screening of respiratory pathologies is emerging. This work is led by scientists from the Institut des agents infectieux of the Hospices Civils de Lyon, in collaboration with scientists from the Institut de recherches sur la catalyse et l’environnement de Lyon (IRCELYON, CNRS / Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1) ; the Institut des sciences analytiques (ISA, CNRS / Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1) and the Centre international de recherche en infectiologie (CIRI – INSERM/CNRS/Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1/ENS de Lyon).
