A look back at Adsorption Day with Microtrac
On May 28, 2026, we had the pleasure of co-organizing at our facilities an Adsorption Day with our partner Microtrac.
Ircelyon as a Reference Site for Microtrac
Ircelyon is a reference site for Microtrac in France, where BELSORP technology is used within research activities. The laboratory primarily conducts applied studies and experimental characterizations of porous materials using this technology. This is how, in March, Mercer Instruments successfully installed a BELSORP MAX X in the lab, generously loaned by Microtrac Formulation. This state-of-the-art equipment complements our existing instrumentation, which already includes a BELSORP MINI X, both controlled by the BELCONTROL and BELMASTER software packages.
The BELSORP Analyzers
The BELSORP analyzers allow for fine characterization of the textural properties of porous materials. They offer a wide range of measurements, including surface area determination (BET), pore size distribution analysis (microporosity and mesoporosity), as well as pore volume measurement by gas adsorption. The BELSORP MAX X, in particular, enables high-precision analyses over a broad pressure range, including very low pressures required for characterizing microporous materials. These instruments are essential for diverse applications, ranging from catalysis and energy to gas storage and environmental materials.

The Adsorption Day
The Ircelyon-Microtrac partnership focuses on initiatives such as the Adsorption Day. This event brought together experts and practitioners to discuss the latest advancements in adsorption measurement techniques, from fundamentals to concrete applications.
We would like to thank all the speakers for their valuable contributions:
• Dr Michelle Mercer
• Dr Bilal Amoury
• Dr Lars Rademacher
• Dr Jimena Castro Gutierrez
• Dr Cécile Daniel
• Dr Cécile Grimaud
• Dr David Farrusseng
• Dr Johanna Bocel
• Dr Mickaële Bonneau
This day highlighted the importance of these exchanges to bridge academic research, instrumentation, and industrial applications, while strengthening collaborations in the field of material characterization.
In this dynamic, the partnership between Ircelyon and Microtrac will continue to develop in the coming months through the organization of thematic webinars and further in-person technical days. These initiatives aim to deepen specific topics, share practical insights, and guide users in the effective use of adsorption techniques.
We look forward to continuing this collaboration and contributing together to advancements in the field of porous material characterization.
